Fear of Flying – is it keeping you grounded?

You’d really like to join your mates on a golfing trip to the Algarve. Your fear of flying holds you back.

You’d love to visit your first grandchild in Hong Kong. Your fear of flying holds you back.

You’d love to go for that promotion as European Sales Manager. Your fear of flying holds you back.

As the world gets smaller and travel (in theory at least!) gets easier, so fear of flying becomes more and more of an issue.
I’ve had clients coming to me with all of these scenarios and more – their partner is fed up with cruises; the family is threatening to leave them at home while they fly off on holiday; and their job is on the line if they can’t get to that board meeting in Spain or the States.

This particular phobia can take many forms – is it the take-off and landing? Or the idea of being so high, above the clouds? Is it the fact that you are strapped in? Confined to a small space? Not in control? It is complex, and often it may be more than one or all of these.

Sometimes, there is a logical reason in this lifetime for an extreme reluctance to fly. If, for instance, you were on a transatlantic flight as a child and the plane was caught in severe turbulence over the ocean, that would be enough to trigger anxiety. Or if there was once a technical problem on a flight, it had to turn back, an engine caught fire ….. then, for some people, that is enough to put them off for life. Or several lives …

In my many years of working with fears and phobias, I have found that the real root cause of fear of flying for many people lies not in this lifetime at all, but in a past life.  Recent cases have included a man who went back to a life as a fighter pilot in WWI, when the planes were little more than balsa wood and sticking plaster and the pilots had no parachutes. He was shot down on his third mission, aged just 19. A lady found a life as a man in India in the 1600s: after exploring a fascinating life, we found him buried under rubble during an earthquake in Calcutta. He was not found, and died there, trapped in that enclosed space.

If your fear of flying is holding you back, in your personal or professional life, get in touch. Let’s get it sorted – and watch your life take off!

How could Hypnotherapy help you?

There seems to be a perception “out there” that people who come to see someone like me must be “strange” in some way, or into “all that woo woo stuff”.
Let me set the record straight on that. Some people who come to see me are indeed on their own spiritual journey, and I am very happy to work with them. Using my blend of hypnotherapy, past life, spirit release and soul retrieval work can help them overcome blockages and shift them up a notch or two.
However, the majority of people who come to see have not given much thought to their spirituality at all, they just want to sort out whatever issue is holding them back. And that is absolutely fine with me too.

There are many ways in which hypnotherapy can be used to help people: indeed that is one of the reasons I was attracted to it all those years ago. Like a tradesman with a toolbox full of tried and tested tools, I will use whichever techniques and processes I feel will be most effective to resolve the particular issue I am dealing with. My objective is always to get to the root cause of the issue and to resolve it at source.

What are the typical types of problems that people present me with?
Fears and phobias is a common one: anything from a fear of flying to fear of success – a phobia is, after all, a more exaggerated, irrational fear. Very often this can lead back to a past life – the very idea may sound strange to some people, but once they have experienced one or more of their previous lives, they are totally convinced!

Weight loss is high on the list too. There is so much hype and media / peer pressure nowadays for people to be slim to the point of being skinny, that even some people I would say are “normal” want to lose weight. I do work with those who are genuinely seriously overweight and we aim to find the real underlying reason why the client is holding on to that excess weight. If needed, and after looking at the other issues, I will “fit” a hypnotic gastric band to help with weight control.

“Emotional issues” covers a wide range of challenges that people face, from anxiety and stress to feeling overwhelmed with situations or relationships. Here again I always work with the client to uncover the root causes and deal with those. There may be a couple of “spirit passengers” having an influence – again, some people think this is a very strange concept. To me, it is totally natural, and results can range from subtle but “something has definitely shifted” to quite dramatic – kicking a gambling addiction, losing a craving for cakes and biscuits, for instance. That is just the starting point, of course, and we can look back at past lives, investigate deep-seated belief systems or even talk to parts of the body if appropriate.

Pain control – pain is actually a construct in the brain and, as such, may be de-constructed. It should always be remembered of course that pain is the body’s alarm system and as such should not be switched off completely. I would work with a client to put in place a new “programme” to give the client control, the ability to turn down the pain when needed: this is done through strong hypnotic suggestions, visualisations and similar techniques.

Giving up Smoking – generally speaking, this can be done in one session with hypnotherapy. But again, I would always talk with the client to see what else is going on – someone who is very stressed or has other emotional, mental or physical issues to deal with will not find it as easy to give up as someone whose issues have been dealt with.

If you feel that my blend of hypnotherapy, past life, spirit release and soul retrieval work could help you, give me a call on 01444 459 433 or 07597 020 512. I am always happy to have a chat: there’s no commitment, as I understand it is important for a client to find just the right therapist to work with.

Soul Retrieval – what does that mean?

I use the Shamanic term to explain the process of going back and “retrieving” those parts of your soul that have split off and been “left behind” at times of trauma.
Parts of our soul can split off at any time from birth onwards. Typical situations would be a young child abused by a parent or family member; a teenager whose heart is broken; a parent who experiences a stillbirth or whose child dies unexpectedly; and someone who loses a loved one through death or divorce: there are many more but as you can see, most people nowadays will have gone through at least one of these situations if not more.

The process starts with me putting the client into a deep state of relaxation with hypnotherapy. I then talk direct with the client’s unconscious (we might also call it the inner self or higher self), and ask it to indicate the different ages at which there are situations to be addressed. Armed with this list, we start the journey. At each stop, we look for and find the “splintered-off” or “left behind” part of the client. It may be a frightened little boy who was bullied at school, too scared to tell his parents what was going on. He will probably still be scared, confused, shy… Or a teenage girl who was forced to have an abortion: she may be sad, feeling a sense of loss, angry … A young adult whose mother or father died suddenly before there was a chance to say those last goodbyes: he or she could well be feeling cheated, frustrated, angry, confused ….

Each of those lost parts need to be re-integrated into the client. This is not always easy, and can often be emotional. Sometimes the lost parts are defiant:  “you’ve forgotten all about me”; “why should I trust you now?”;  “I hate you …”
But eventually, with love and warmth and compassion, they can be embraced back into the heart where they belong.
The process of leaving behind, letting go of, those emotions that are no longer needed, of cutting the links to any emotional “tug” those fragments may still have had to the adult, is very cathartic.

These sessions can be very emotional, and I encourage that release. It is my firm belief that no real emotional healing can take place unless and until the individual is “whole”, and this process is one of the most powerful in allowing that to happen.

If you would like to know more, give me a call on 01444 459 433 or 07597 020 512 or email me on:   judy@effective-hypnotherapy.co.uk. I’m always happy to chat, totally free and totally confidential.

Past Lives and Life between Lives

PAST LIVES AND LIVES BETWEEN LIVES

Past life work is my passion, because I understand how powerful it can be at resolving such a wide range of issues.

Over the years I have helped lots and lots of people to explore their past lives, either out of interest or because we were tracing back the root cause of a particular issue in this lifetime. I have had clients come to me with problems such as sleep disorder; a constant, nagging anxiety; and even infertility. None of these clients would have specifically come to me for a session of past life regression and yet, working back to find the root causes, we ended up in some very interesting situations in times gone by. The process of discovering what caused the pain or trauma in the first place, and dealing with any outstanding issues of course, almost inevitably resolves the problem in this current lifetime, allowing the client to move on knowing that the baggage has been dealt with.

LIFE BETWEEN LIVES

Life between lives is a fascinating topic and, like past life regression, it’s a huge subject in itself.

If we work from the assumption that the soul survives death – what happens to it? Where does it go? Why does it come back – or doesn’t it? It would take a book to answer all of those questions in depth, and people such as Roger Woolger have produced books that do just that.

But in brief, the soul “goes home” to that other reality, that other dimension, where it is met by its soul group. This is a bit like meeting up with old friends after years of being away: a time for celebration and renewing those links, and of telling stories about that time away. What did you do, what was good, what was not so good; what you learned; all those experiences!

After a period of settling in and resting, the soul meets with what is generally called “The Council of Elders” for a more formal de-briefing of the time on earth. Each soul comes to earth with a “to do” list, lessons to be learned, challenges to be undertaken. This de-briefing is the time to go through that list and discuss how well the life lived matched the original objectives. It is not done in a judgmental way, rather with love and compassion, helping the soul to understand where the challenges were not met, as well as acknowledging the progress the soul has made in other areas. That leads to the preparation of the script for the next life, and in a session with a client I ensure that we check on the script for this life.

The purpose of the soul’s interval on earth is to make spiritual progress but it is not that easy to rattle through the “to do” list and cross things off, for it is erased from the conscious memory of the baby at birth. So how do souls know what they are meant to achieve? By linking with that inner, unconscious knowing – or by going back to that time between lives when the new contracts were agreed and the “to do” list drawn up.

Going back to the time before birth, to that period between lives, allows us to meet our soul group, those other souls who are usually with us life after life, in one way or another. A mother or brother in this life may have been a lover or a rival or a sworn enemy before. Inevitably there are reasons why they keep turning up in our lives and these threads weave their own stories across eternity. It is always fascinating to recognise people from the soul group: that in itself frequently explains relationship issues (for better or worse!) or instant attraction or that feeling of “I’ve only just met you but I feel as though I’ve known you for years”.

But the real issue is, usually, “why am I here? What is on my “to do” list this time round?” Re-playing that discussion with the “council”; re-reading the contract and reminding yourself consciously of your life’s purpose, is a very powerful exercise. I have been told, for instance, that I am in the last of a linked trilogy of lives dedicated to exploring and practising Grace. It was enormously humbling to try and understand that I had made a contract not for one, but for three lifetimes, in order to make the necessary progress along my spiritual pathway. And even more humbling to assess this current life and realise how much work there still is to be done!

It is an honour and a privilege to work with clients on this type of journey. A typical session takes a couple of hours and can be very emotional, but it is also beautiful to make that connection and to feel the unconditional love that always comes from “home”.

Real Testimonials from Real Clients

Sometimes clients will write me a letter – or, more commonly nowadays, send me an email – to let me know what changes have come about in their lives as a result of their sessions with me. It is always a pleasure to receive such feedback. A handful are reproduced here, to give a flavour of the wide range of issues that have been resolved.
Names have been  removed to maintain client confidentiality. First, a selection of “one-liners” and then a few slightly longer explanations.

“I left (the session) not knowing up or down …. There was lots of processing, and now I am lighter, happier and more joyful.”

“I haven’t felt this good in my life.       I’ve turned the corner.”

“The work you’ve done so far has been an enormous help, thank you very much!”

“It’s easier for me to accept who I am. I’m happy with who I am, and I’m easier to get on with.”

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-20-04-44“I really enjoyed the session, and did indeed feel the benefit of it. With regards my back, it felt very much improved straight away as you know, with a feeling of freeness that I had not experienced for years. ….. Also re the food issue, that seems to be improving too. Initially there didn’t seem to be any difference in the way I felt about food, but maybe a week or so later, it was like a switch had been flicked in my head, and I just felt all of a sudden that I ‘didn’t need to be fat anymore’ ….. It would be lovely for this to be something that I can leave behind in the past. Or perhaps more usefully, something that can be consigned to the mental rubbish bin as it is something that is now no longer required in my life.”

“I’m calmer, more relaxed. I’m able to let go, I’m finding it easier to make decisions.
My back is feeling much better. I have had problems with my right wrist for years, it is now loosening up and becoming more flexible.”

“It’s been several weeks since I last saw you and, as promised, I thought I’d let you know how things are with me.
I have used the relaxation disc you gave me most days and I have gained great benefit from it.
I still suffer with pain in my back but I do have days when it is much less painful and I feel my health has benefited with relaxing more and listening to your words.
So, I am grateful for your help and send my best wishes, hoping all is well with you.”

“I just wanted to thank you and let you know how I was getting on after that amazing session with you last Wednesday.
I felt truly unburdened and free, as well as powerful and glorious. I  feel I’ve reached a point I’ve been straining towards for years – a point where I have full confidence in who I am and full faith in all that is. And unexpectedly an enormous amount of joy and fun came from it too!
Everyone around me noticed – my interactions with others has changed a lot – no more neediness towards others, just a desire to empower and love them.
So I was on a real high for several days. No more sleeping pills – I just don’t want or need them anymore – and I’m now slowly cutting back on the other medication too.”

“I thought I’d send you a quick email to let you know how I’m doing after our 3 sessions recently.
I started the ( ) Weight Plan shortly after our sessions and I’ve lost 2 stone in 7 weeks!
It’s a very low calorie diet (600 per day everyday) but I have stuck to it religiously and not strayed once! People around me can’t believe I haven’t binged or had a ‘treat’ but I truly have not strayed and reaped the rewards!
I’ve got another 2 and half stone to lose but feel very positive and cannot believe how well this is going for me.
It’s all down to our sessions so I’d like to thank you very much.”

STOPTOBER: Give up smoking with Hypnotherapy

no smoking signI can’t remember when STOPTOBER crept into the annual calendar – but at least it has raised awareness of the health issues of smoking and the possibility that you can give up!

If you’ve been promising yourself to give up just for a month – why not give up for good – your good? That’s not moralising, it’s fact: giving up will be good for your health and for your bank balance!

I’ve had a fair few people come to see me recently to give up smoking. Sometimes it’s very straightforward – nothing else going on with them, it’s just a bad habit and it’s time to stop. Sometimes, there are underlying issues that need to be addressed, and that will make it much easier to kick the habit completely. In any event, we sort out what’s happening, and we resolve it at source. Then we work on the giving up smoking.

Do you want to stop smoking? Do you REALLY want to stop smoking? If so, give me a call on 01444 459 433 or 07597 020 512.

Over-Eating and Hypnotherapy

green apple and tape measureIt is not easy to get away from food in today’s media-driven world.
Just look at how many programmes there are on TV dedicated to putting food in front of you on the screen for hours each week. Never mind if the dishes being prepared are gluten-free, dairy-free, meat-free salads or desserts designed to send calories and cholesterol into orbit – for those with a weakness for food, it is a trigger.
Every newspaper and whole magazines are dedicated to persuading us to eat even more.
Please don’t get me started on supermarkets and their marketing tricks.
Or the obscene amounts of hidden sugar in processed foods (why is there sugar in a quiche lorraine, I wonder?).

So on the one hand we are being bombarded with food  and advice on what is good for us (which changes like the wind) – and  on the other hand we are told that we have to be stick-insect thin, verging on anorexic. Only these waif-like creatures are socially acceptable, it seems. People who are any more than “chubby” are mocked and considered to be social outcasts.
People are treated like criminals when they become addicted to the substances they have been over-exposed to. Like any addictive substance – and why else do manufacturers put so much sugar and salt into processed food if not to get consumers addicted and coming back for more – bad food habits can be hard to break. But it can be done. And, I believe, it is not always to do with actual food consumption.

Yes, there are definite issues to do with a sedentary lifestyle – people no longer walk to work, or do so much physical work or Hamburgerexercise. Nowadays people commute (sitting down) and sit at desks and then collapse on the sofa to unwind in front of the tele when they get home (more often than not with a ready meal on their laps).  It would do us all good to walk more, swim more, jog more – but I believe the over-eating, holding on to weight issue is more complex than that.

There can be many underlying emotional reasons why people hold on to weight – everything from abuse in childhood to bullying in school; forced abortions or traumatic childbirth to bitter relationship break-ups. Getting to the root cause – the real root cause – may involve peeling that emotional onion and re-discovering the true person inside, the one whose self-esteem has plummeted, who believes they are not good enough any more.

Then of course there is the Catch-22 of bariatric surgery – which you only need if you are seriously obese, but very often can’t have because, being obese, your heart won’t stand the strain of the anaesthetic and the trauma of the operation. Hypnotic gastric banding is always an option there.

If you would like to tackle the excess weight that you are holding on to, give me a call now on 01444 459 433 or 07597 020 512. I work from Vinings Natural Health Centre in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, and I am happy to have a chat to see how I might be able to help you – totally free and totally confidential.

Drinking and Hypnotherapy

screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-18-24-55“I do find society’s attitude to alcohol very paradoxical. The whole of the western world is geared to the encouragement of the consumption of alcohol, but at the same time we loathe, denigrate and pity alcoholics. How can that be right? We use pretty much every opportunity as an excuse to have a drink. We know that alcohol is a poison so we drink to the edge of falling off that cliff. People work to the premise that having a hangover is acceptable. Is this some kind of perverse self-discipline?
Alcohol is poisonous. It completely wrecks our internal systems. It screws you yet we crave more.”

Those eloquent words come from a client I have worked with over several years, and who has not had any alcohol for more than a year now.

The client calls it paradoxical; I would say hypocritical. Alcohol is openly sold everywhere –  corner newsagents, petrol screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-18-19-15stations, convenience stores, supermarkets – and even specialist wine shops. It is freely advertised and frequently discounted. “Having a drink” is considered sociable, “the done thing” – and yet, as my client observed, pity the person who finds they cannot control the habit. Alcoholics are considered below contempt, lacking willpower and self-control. The message seems to be, “drink as much as you can, go right up to the wire, and we’ll tell you it’s fine, you’re one of us. But step over, fall down that abyss and you’re out.”

Those on the road to alcoholism find themselves becoming increasingly devious in hiding the habit, cunning in concealing the empties. The habit can destroy not only the life of the drinker but also those around him or her

There is no magic wand remedy for alcoholism, not even with hypnotherapy.
But it could well be that someone who is drinking more than is good for them is carrying a spirit “passenger” who likes the taste of alcohol. Or it could be that abuse or trauma early in this life – or in a previous life – holds the key to this destructive, addictive behaviour.

Don’t leave it too late to seek help. Give me a call now on 07597 020 512 or email me on:   judy@effective-hypnotherapy.co.uk .

Weight Loss Surgery – and Hypnotic Gastric Banding

red apple, inches tape measureAnother day, another article in the press about bariatric surgery – the umbrella term for weight loss surgery. This prompted me to refer to the UK official NHS website for their latest guidelines on weight loss surgery: it made interesting reading.

There is a lot of information about what the various surgical procedures are – gastric bypass, gastric band, sleeve gastrectomy – risks, results, “life after weight loss surgery” and so on.

An NHS Psychological Assessment will determine whether:
you have any mental health conditions or emotional problems that could prevent you sticking to your lifestyle plan after surgery
you’ve developed unhealthy patterns of eating, such as binge eating, that could cause problems after surgery
you have realistic expectations of what life will be like after surgery.

Nowhere, as far as I could see from the NHS website, does it offer any advice or suggestions about addressing any of these issues prior to surgery.

Under the heading “Psychosocial effects of (weight loss) surgery” , it states:
“It’s also common for a person to experience a worsening of mood when their weight stabilises, typically two years after surgery. This is often because many people realise that problems that existed before surgery, such as money worries or difficulties at work, are still there.”

I am not denying that bariatric surgery can, and has, helped a lot of people. But my point is that, without addressing the underlying emotional reasons / issues that cause someone to hold onto that excess weight in the first place, it is like putting a sticking plaster over a festering wound and expecting to wound to heal all by itself: it’s not going to happen.

I have worked with lots of clients who have been holding onto varying amounts of excess weight. One of the these was a white feet on scaleslovely lady who weighed around 23 stone when she came to see me. She had been through the full NHS programme leading up to bariatric surgery, and had done all that was asked of her. When the time came, she was refused surgery because she was still too obese. This is the classic Catch 22, isn’t it – someone needs surgery because they are obese, and yet because they are obese, they can’t have surgery due to the risk to their heart with the anaesthetic and stress to the system. I worked with this lady for a few months, as we peeled the layers off the emotional onion, getting closer and closer to the real person at the core. Many issues were dealt with along the way. She laughed, she cried, she uncovered “stuff” that had been locked away for years and years. There is no magic wand here; she did not lose 10 stone in a couple of months. But her whole persona changed. She re-discovered who she really was, and she liked that person very much. With her new-found confidence, she re-joined her slimming club and was frequently Slimmer of the Week and Slimmer of the Month. She changed her eating habits and the food she cooked for her family – and they all enjoyed the new way of eating! Did she have a hypnotic gastric band fitted? No, because she no longer felt the need for one.

People hold on to excess weight for many reasons: abuse in childhood or bullying at school; a broken relationship or loss of a loved one; even termination of a pregnancy or a baby lost at childbirth. The weight is used as protection or comfort or both. There is a particular logic I have repeatedly come across in women that runs as follows: when I was slim, I was attractive, and I attracted a man. That man hurt me. I don’t want to be hurt any more, so I will make myself less attractive, then I won’t attract another man.

I use a blend of clinical hypnotherapy, past life regression, spirit release and soul retrieval work to get to the real root causes of holding on to excess weight. Many of the clients who come to see me have only ever come across these concepts on my website or when they have talked to me. They frequently say, “Jude, this is all a bit out there.” It probably is to them, but to me it is totally normal, and the results speak for themselves. We find past lives where they have starved to death, and have passed with the thought, “I will never go hungry again.” We find spirit “passengers” with a sweet tooth – once they have been moved on, the obsession for cakes and biscuits vanishes. We uncover the trail of trauma and events that have caused fragments of the soul to split off and be stuck in time: we find these fragments, we leave behind all of the negative emotions and bring them home. We talk with the excess weight and find out how it’s feeling: angry? fed up? bored? We find out what we need to do to help it shift. We thank it for doing its job so well, and we give it permission to leave. Does that all sound whacky to you? Probably. But it works.

And then – only then, when the festering wounds have been completely cleared out, cleansed and healed – will I talk with the client about a hypnotic gastric band. If he or she still wants one, that’s fine, it can be done. Without invasive surgery, without anaesthetic, and without any if the risks listed on the NHS website such as internal bleeding, a blood clot inside the leg (Deep vein thrombosis) or a blood clot or other blockage in the lungs (pulmonary embolism).

Next step along your spiritual pathway? Let me help!

stained glass Compassion mother and childIt may seem strange to talk about spiritual development on a hypnotherapy website, but it’s not strange to me at all. In my sessions, I blend clinical hypnotherapy with past life regression and spirit release work, and I am perfectly aware that my helpers are with me when I am with a client.

Nowadays, increasing numbers of people are “waking up” – becoming aware of latent spiritual gifts: they may start to see or hear things, or just to be aware that something has shifted. It is not always easy to find people to talk to about this – that’s why I started the Indigo Umbrella group a couple of years ago (www.indigoumbrella.co.uk). The aim is to bring together like-minded people who share an interest across the spectrum of Science meets Spirituality – and, I have to ask, in this day and age, is there actually any difference between science and spirituality at all?

I have recently had calls from people who have been “woken up” and wanted someone to talk to, some guidance and perhaps a bit of understanding about what was going on. I do not claim to be an expert by any means, but I am always happy to meet up with and talk to such people. Sometimes a past life session helps, or a session where we re-connect with the soul and that wonderful loving wisdom. Sometimes I am able to put the person in touch with others who can share their own experiences and knowledge. But always it is a comfort, a relief, for them to find a safe, welcoming environment in which to talk about “all that stuff”.

So if you feel you have just started your spiritual journey, or you are on the way but have got stuck – give me a call on 01444 459 433 or 07597 020 512, or email me on:  judy@effective-hypnotherapy.co.uk.
